Somewhere in France

Dear Lulu

I am safely in France now and in the best of health, and having lots of fun. Everything here is very strange and really "funny" in many ways. If you could hear me trying to talk French with the civilians here, you would laugh; & if you could see me getting confused over the sudden change from Canadian to English, and now French money you would laugh still more. If the exchange of shilling to francs and centimes was only according to book it would be easier, but it isn't. However, no Canadian soldier will ever be called provincial after the war, he will be the most cosmopolitan of men.

So far I have had just one letter from you since I left Canada, but I suppose you have written many to me; perhaps you have not received the encyclopedia of news I have sent you! Did you get the badges I sent you? Anyway, write as often as you can for probably one out of every two will get lost.

I am already looking forward to seeing you again. Someday this wretched affair will end - just as soon as we can end the German resistance I suppose - let it be soon.

Dont forget to send that photo; you asked me to tell me what was the best thing you could send, you know. Give my kindest regards to your mother & father, & with love to yourself, Yours Tom.
