My Dear Mother

Your most welcome letter received a couple of days ago, was glad to hear from you, and that every body was well, same as this leaves us Aylmer Boys at the present time. We have been the trenches for some little time now, as it is I am writing this sitting in little Dugout on the front line. It is very quiet during the day time. It is at night that most of the fighting is done. Of course there are a few shells burst near us during the day, but it is fairly quiet at all times. We expect to be here for a little time yet. So will write when we go out to the Billets for a rest. It is not nearly so bad as I thought it would be. The third night in we were on sentry duty when we saw a german crawling up to our line for too listen. We soon stopped him for we threw a bomb on him. He is still there, I do not think he will hear anything now. Well I must close for now. The address is almost the same as before except Army Post Office. Put on fourth Canadian Division B.E.F., France. Please give it to Reay Ferris and to Helen and Mary. I have not much time to write while in the trenches. But will do so at every possible time. So will close for now. Give my Love to all. I remain Your Loving Son
