To the Military Authorities
District No. 10
Sirs. -
I wish to make application for the return of my husband Corp'l (Rev) A.W. Mayse, No. 291494. Late of 1st C.M.R. - B.E.F.: France, who was severely wounded in both arms & both legs - on July 18 - 1917. He is now in the Massey Harris Convalescent Hospital, London, and though his wounds are progressing favorably he is still suffering from nervous shock strain.
Corp'l Mayse served in the Pon't h African war; and holds the Queen's metal with four clapso, and the King's with two. He was wounded, and taken prisoner, - later released - and wounded again severely in the Face, and spend fourteen months in hospital. Was invalided from the Imperial Force. He never recovered form the nervous effects of the South African Experience. In Jan'y 1916 he gave up his church at Emerson and enlisted with Lieut. - Col. Lightfoot in the 222. He did much recruiting work, - was instrumental in calling the first recruiting meeting in Emerson. He qualified for his Commission but went to England as a Serg't and later reverted, to go to France, and was wounded as stated above, on July 18.
I make my plea because of my own health, and that of my little boy. I am suffering from a malady from which I do not expect ever to fully recover, and have been ordered imphatically not to work hard. The late worry, and weight of responsibility and care of my boy make it impossible for me to give myself any consideration.
I hope the authorities will see fit to have my husband sent back home. He has done his bit Faithfully and willingly, as I have tried to do mine.
Yours very respectfully
Elizabeth E. Mayse
Wife of Corp'l (Rev) Amos Wm Mayse
