My Dear Betty & Kiddies: -

Well dear wife it will soon be a week since I received my knock-out from Fritz & am getting along fine. I was as you know wounded by a shell in both legs, above my knees & in left elbow (a wound about 2" long) & my right arm just a small one about the shoulder. I was under Xrays on Sunday and they found a piece of shell still in my thigh (right) & embedded in the muscle, they are not going to operate here, however & the doctor marked me for England this morning, & I expect to go tomorrow (not a long stay in France eh? 2 months) Shirley & Billy would be interested to see me lying in bed, a wire cradle over both legs & my old left arm reforming on a pillow by my side - I have to lie on my back the whole time & my right arm is the only thing that I can use. Everyone is so kind here & can't do too much for one. Did the Presby chaplain write you I haven't heard any more about poor Pryor let me know what news you get, & you had better send my letters to Rose for a while now, & she will forward them to me, I am not allowed to write for long, but as soon as I can sit up I will tell you the story of the 18th of July. It seemed strange that the last letters I received from you spoke about Billy worrying about me, poor little chap- Now - dear sweetheart. Don't worry at all, just thank God that He has so miraculously answered your prayers & preserved me in the face of certain death. Do you know that my clothing was literally blown or torn from me.
Goodnight dear ones but love & kisses, write often.
