Dear Violet:
I received your letter of Oct 23 and was very glad to hear from you. Yesterday I wrote to Grace a letter that I had should have sent long ago. Besides its getting close to Christmas time and I have great hopes of getting lots of boxes. I am writing this in our little dugout with the leaky roof. About a week ago it rained for two hours but its been raining inside here ever since. I suppose by this time mother has moved into her new house. I wish you would send me a picture of it. You say they have not received any news from me at home. I expected to hear something about that as there was quite awhile there when it was impossible for me to write but I always write to mother whenever I can. I will have to close now as the mail is going out. Don't forget those Christmas boxes and send them early.
Love to all,
Jay
