Dear Mother:

I was going to write yesterday but Bill May and I were on mess orderly all day yesterday until after seven and we went down to the train to see 240 of the 53rd reinforcements go away. We are to have a big feed tonight as a couple of boxes of grub have come from Battleford. It has been cold for the last week and have rain every other day but it is so sandy that it is hard to keep clean. To day it has been windy and cold and talk about dirt. We had a march of about seven miles this afternoon. I have just had a good wash and washed some soxs. Johnny was just up in our tent and he says he thinks he will be sent back but he is so crazy and says so many things that you can hardly believe him. I went down to the C.M.R's the other night and saw a bunch of the boys. I am sending a photo that we had taken on the way down I think that Higgins will be sent back on account of his heart but it is hard to say if it is true. We have quite a city down here now. There are lunch counters, pool rooms, barber shops, drug store, sums stand and other things to take our good money. The officers told us today that we might be doing away in for or five weeks but I do not think there is much in it. Some of the boys have joined the signalling corps and Bill May and I have volunteered to be company scouts but I do not know when we will start but they told us that we would start this week. We have started to take drill that we will use at the front and have done away with a lot of this platoon drill. I think that Uncle Dick is down here all the time as he has been around to see me three times in the last week and have missed him every time. We have not got our uniforms yet and do not know when we will get them. That fellow that used to work at Millars has been down here for a couple of weeks. He came right down after he enlisted and they are still coming and going right along. Eddin has not [?] letters to me yet and it is about ten days since I wrote to him. This writing is not very good as I have no place to do any writing as the Y is full up at nights. I thought of a lot to say but now I cannot think of anything to say now. I got those letters with the photos in them but I did not show Richmond that one as I do not think is worth while. Young [?] told me that Gaylor and Andrews get and sent letters to Irene quite often but I do not think I will bother as she said that is cost to much to write a letter. Bill and I got our photos taken yesterday peeling potatoes and one taken in front of our tent but I do not know how they have come out yet. I thought I was going to be sick last week but I feel fine now and have being going easy on the grub lately which seems to do my stomach good. Well I guess I will cut it short now as it s about time to go for our feed

With love to all

from your loving son

Gordon
