January 21

Reached Campbellton N.B. at 3 p.m. - the home guard there gave us a great send-off. We went around town for a route march led by their bugle band. We went through Mocton about midnight. There was a large crowd at the station to see us but we were all in bed and only heard the big noise they made.

Got into Halifax 7 a.m. 22nd. Charlie met me at the station. Had a nice chat. He stayed with me about an hour but had to go back to barracks on account of being orderly sergeant. We were kept in the cars all day with the exception of a half an hour's route march. Pretty rotten deal, especially when a fellow has relations to see.
