My Dear Olive.
You will be having a birthday soon and this is to wish you very many happy returns of the day. How old will you be? Seven! No eight years old I do believe. My! I don’t believe I will ever see my little girl again because she will be such a big girl when I come home. Well we cant help it just now but we will be very happy when we all get together again. I am going to send you a tiny wee box. It is so small that the postman might loose it so I am going to put it in a bigger one with some other little things for some of the others.
I am always very pleased to get your nice letters.
Your loving Daddy.
J. Gray"
