Dear Fred

I am well, very hard a lot uphill and down, over rails through ditches and over stone fences it makes you strong. We saw a one Engine Airship to day it was going fine, I am standing with [W Gillen?] these days, it is fine to have one from Echo Place to talk and sleep with,

Yours
Roy

[added at top of card, date/author unknown: “5,” “Havre,” “Rec’d Oct 30/16,” and “About Oct. 13 or 14/16-.”]

[Editor’s note: Dot code used by Gullen to secretly indicate his location. Characters that appear to have been marked in the written message with dots underneath them have been marked in the transcription with an underline; the dot under the “a” in “rails” is very faint. Written together they spell “harver” (most likely intended as a reference to Le Havre, France).]
