My Dear Jessie:

Recd. your letter of the 31st inst. and one from Father the day before; was funny yours was written before Father, but I got his first. It seems rather queer that you are not getting my letters; I have been writing every week lately any way, perhaps I missed a week or two before xmas but I will try and write every week. Yes I hope this war will be over before this time next year. I am sorry [?] Ledgewick and Ed Snow have enlisted. I think it is the wrong place for either of them. No-body under nineteen is allowed to go to the front any-way, so I think or at least hope, that bz the time they are old enough the war will be over. Am glad to hear the anniversary went off nice by and lots of people there; I suppose you made quite a lot of money, did you. Am glad to hear you have a box on the road for me; they taste very nice, especially while quarantine, as we are now. The first time since I joined the army that I have been locked up. Ralph Leogan broke out with the mumps. I hate to be in quarantine, cant get down [?] or anywhere else. We usually go to [?] [?] and Sunday afternoons and have a feed, when we are free. There are quite a number of huts in quarantine; it will keep us back from France some time. Glad to hear Low is rushing miss Foley, or the girls nothing like it. Ha! Ha! Mr Leagle, or Capt. Bayle I should say has been married since he came over; he got a very pretty girl too. He used to be our platoon officer. Raph is now and a blame good one too. He is a smarter boy than ever I thought he was. Harry Lad has two stripes now. When you talk of skating, it makes me feel as though I would like to be there with you; none here what ever, but we are blessed with quite warm weather, although I is damp. The weather in Can. is much healthier I think.

I guess it agrees with me alright, I only weigh 183 lbs. am feeling fine. They used to wey and scare us in Can saying that hard work we would get when we got to England, we haven't worked nearly as hard as we did in aldershot, Can.

We have not been able to locate Bill wicks yet, Erwin wrote a letter to him but got it back. Kate wrote Erwin saying Bill was coming to see us, on his first leave, hope he come before we go away, I think Dan will be up from Bramshot this afternoon, am sorry I am in quarantine, still [?] thank [?] I have had the mumps thankful for small mercies. Ha! Ha! Well! Think this is all I have to write, nothing new write soon to Loving bro. Spence. Xxxxx ooooo

PS: Was sorry in a way to hear that Mr. Mc [?] read that letter to Ann. We didn't mean it for ann. We just sent it to Dur. Had we known [?can't read the rest]
