Some Where in France Jan. 3-17. Dear Mother, - I am taking time to write you another letter that is I have written to since I heard from you but I guess that a letter is always welcome, I had to letters returned to me that I had written to you they would not pass the censor but I will try this one. Well Christmas is goneby & believe me it was some Christmas I hope I never put in another like it the only thing that made it Christmas was the day being the 25th but we hope to be home for the next one. Well I am going to put my address here because the will not allow us to put it at the beginning or the end of a letter it is Ptd. J.A. Mc Dougall No. 207377 B Company R. C. R. France, I was sorry that I did not stay in England long enough to get a pass so that I could go to Glasgow and see the relatives but if I am lucky I might get a chance sometime but you have to be in France about a year before you can expect a pass the only way to get to England is to get wounded & of course we don't want that. Well I hope you had a nice Christmas, you should take a trip to New York for a couple of weeks & see that girls I will pay the expenses if I have that much money. We are having very wet weather the trenches are hip deep with mud in lots of places so it makes it pretty miserable they are talking about peace but it does not look like it here but the sooner the better to suit me If you send me anything be sure & have it well packed & the main thing is tobacco [cigarettes] of course some thing [Bull Durham] good to eat is nice to and always mail R on the outside of the package what is in it. Well I think that is about all for this time hoping you are feeling fine I will quit with lots of love John P.S. Write soon I receive you reg. letter I think I told you that in my last letter if you are sending anything in your letters always register them & then I am more sure of getting them.
