Some Where in France
Feb. 8-17
Dear Mother,-
I have at last found time to write you a letter but I was waiting to here from you, which I did that is I received a package which I appreciate very much I also received your cards but as yet have received no letter for a very long time at least it seems like a long time. Well things are about as usual with me I cant say that I like it here but we have to make ourselves believe that we do. The weather has been real cold for the last month and I have been feeling a lot better than when it was
When you answer this letter do not put the Brigade or Division on the address
So damp and muddy and the trenches are a lot better now as all the mud is frozen up. The fighting is pretty quiet here yet but of course there are enough shells dropping around so that you know there is a war on and I guess that it wont be long before the spring push will start and then it will be hot enough for any of us here. Well I wish the states would declare war if the did I believe it would shorten the war I hope so anyway.
I received a nice package from Bishes there was candy ciggrettes cake & a Christmas pudding so I had a Christmas dinner but it was about a month late my mail had been going astray. Well I think that I have said about all that I can you now we cant say very much but Ill tell you don't always wait to get a letter from me before you write because I like to get letters a lot better than I like to write them but I try and write when ever I get a chance so hoping this letter will find you feeling fine and in the best of health I will close with lots of love from Your loving son
John
P.S. I wish you would send me a ten dollar bill I could use it very well indeed. Be sure & register it .
