July 22 - Another sad day, probably the saddest of all. The day of disbanding the Midland Regiment. Breaking up the eight companies, each to go off to its respective home town to meet no more as an organized battalion. Each company moved off to its train amid the cheers of those still to go on later trains. The first three were the Peterborough, Millbrook, and Lindsay Companies. Next the Bowmanville Coy. to go west and the two Belleville Coys. to go east. And I was left alone to change my uniform into civilian clothes and get my hair cut. And so ends the Northwest Rebellion of 1885.
