Dear Father,
Just a few lines to let you know I am OK. I received a parcel from you containing cake, socks, nuts and tobacco but the rest of them must be lost. I also had a letter from Mr. Matheson but will answer it later. That system of yours was not up to much as I could not do it. Always put the initials of my regiment, PPCLI, on my address and I will be sure to get my mail. Remember me to Arthur Sampson if he is still working for Gordon. I have not heard from Archie for some time but I suppose he will be out of bed by this time. I was sorry to hear of Jimmie Wiltshire; he was an ideal British soldier. I have had letters from Jeanie and Aunt Annie who all are keeping well but Jeanie's parcels have also gone astray. Yours is the first I have received (which I got January 9, 1917). I'll have to close now hoping this finds you all as well as it leaves me.
