Dear Kiddo
Here we are, here we are, here we are again. Yes it is Wednesday & yesterday was the day I was to have been operated on but do you know what happened? why! the Dr. actually came & had a look at my leg & the plates. He decided then the same as those in France did that the stuff was to small to go after so instead of an operation I got up in a chair for a while in the afternoon. I expect I will be up for a while every day now. Then some day I will try a whack at the crutches but not until my knee bends a bit.
We have actually had a few real nice days for a change but it is raining again today so I guess I wont get outside at all.
It is rather lonely here at times but a couple of the up patients play at chess & I have passed a few pleasant hours at that. Then there are two or three cribbage players also. We had some great sport a few nights ago when a convoy came in from France. You never saw such an excited bunch in your life as those nurses were. The day nurses stayed on duty to help, giving in all six nurses when in France they take in far worse cases without waking the ones in the ward & with only one nurse & one orderly to do it. Here they had to have every light going & were tearing up & down the ward like mad for an hour before any of the stretchers came near. Then one nurse tried to put a globe on one of the electric sockets & put the whole lot out of commission. The sister in charge got up in the air oh what shall we do, what shall we do, she kept saying. They got the janitor to fix the lights & she said (Oh what a blessing.) To make matters worse we all were laughing fit to bust & offering every silly suggestion we could think of.
Well Kiddo I suppose I must quit for lack of news. Oh yes the Surgeon Generals inspection is coming off this afternoon They say it is a big affair & he is a big bug in the Army so of course there is a general hubbub & cleaning up this morning.
Say Kiddo write when you get time. Love to all.
Your Loving Brother
