August 11th 1917.
Dear Fern.
Received a letter from you yesterday dated July 26/17. Received a telegram from Max asking to come out for tea tonight but could not as I was going to Sidcup with Mr. Metcalfe.
Left his office about 2 p.m & reached Sidcup about 3:30. Had tea & saw Esther. Went around and saw the town, the church, the vicar, his wife, the vicarage & the neighbors and the cat & the canary.
Came back and had a very good dinner & had my pictures taken in four different places Just got back half an hour ago.
Sharpe & I went to see Theodore last night. Very good.
Cost's like the d to live in this town. However we are economizing & I only spent about £9 today. I believe we are getting 7/6 However I bought a trench coat today & that was quite a bit.
Got to go to bed now.
With care to all
Gord
