My dear dad,
I hope you received my papers quite safely. It will be sufficient if one signature was obtained as to character - i.e. Mr Smallwoood's.
It would be expedient if the papers reached me before I went up the line again, as I should like them as early as possible.
Personally, I think I have every chance of getting a commission in one branch of the service or other and there seems every reason to hope for the best.
I hope you will not be caused much trouble.
