My Own Darling Wifey,
Just a wee line to let you know I arrived safely at the Base. We had a very rough trip across the Channel, but for a wonder I was not sick. Nearly everyone else was, but I guess I was so tired I slept most of the time
Now dearest you must not worry your self about me as I'm perfectly safe as long as I'm here. Gee! they certainly use us fine we get lots to eat, three good meals a day & hot soup before going to bed every night, we shave just when we feel like it & do not have to shine our brass or button
We are sleeping twelve in a tent & it makes it quite warm the only thing we have to clean is our rifle. They certainly use us like men Jimmy Mayer & Harold Kyte & all those fellows are here yet they went some time ago. We cannot go down town without a pass. I hope to get one soon as things here are so quaint & there are lots of old buildings & such to see.
It seems so funny to see everything written in French & every one talking it too.
Well darling there's not much more I have to say tonight so I'll say goodbye. I am very tired as we had quite a march to get here this morning,
Give my love to Mother, Dad, Maggie & little Sonny, & accept my devoted love to your dear self & give my little darling a big hug & kisses from here DaDa.
With heaps of love.
I am as ever
Your devoted hubby
Jack
