Somewhere in France

Dear Mr Aitkin

I am at last happily settled in France, but as yet I have not taken a homestead. The land is good and in places is very pretty. The climate too is very good for winter. The other day we stripped perfectly naked on the roadside, then put on out boots and an overcoat, and walked about 1/8 of a mile to get a medical exam. Some stunt wasn't it for December! And it was no hardship.

But in spite of that - as I say - I haven't taken a homestead. Nor do I advise anyone else to leave 160 good Canadian acres for French ones.

Well I hope you are having good times at the services, and pray that God will bless you abundantly. Tell Cantuar and Beverly that I want to see both places, better and more beautiful when I return. To have Jesus as your Master is better even in war, than to own the biggest house and the widest farm. And let me whisper it, better than having all the happiness the world can give.

Well God bless you all again. Stay with the great job you have, for you have set me free.
