Haske II 20th August 1917

My Dear Mrs Eardley

I must ask you to forgive me for being so backward in writing. I hope everything is going on well. I suppose by the time you receive this Letter you will have finished harvesting and busy getting the potatoes in. I hope you have the best of luck. I am sending you my photograph along with this Letter. I hope you will receive it safely. It is not very good but is was taken in almost impossible conditions. but it will give you a faint recollection of what I am like. If I get a better one taken I will send it along Please remember me to Miss Emmy. I suppose she has quite a large family by now. I suppose the eldest will be soon reaching military age. I hope Mr Tom is going on alright. It is very hard on us, we are not allowed to communicate with other lager's. It would give them so much extra work. Has Hugh been called up yet. I dont suppose he is he is He must be a great Help to you just now.

Have you still got Anna with you. Give her my best love and tell her I hope she still remains true to me. I hope you will let me come and see you all after this is over. I should love to come. I often think what a bad lad I was. I dont think I am altered much now. The boys tell me that I am the very imp of mischief. I hope it is not true. We have only 26 Eng lish here now, the remains of fifty, ten Frenchmen, and seventy-five Russian's. We are as merry as possible under the circumstances. It takes a lot to disturb my serenity. I have only one month to go to complete my three years captivity. I am like a bird I eat, drink, work, play and sing, I suppose they will open the cage sometimes. I only hope it is in the near future. I dont think I can get much more on the page after I have signed my name. hoping you are well. I remain your's very affectionately Pt [?]. K.
