Dear Mother
Just a few lines to let you know I am in Hospital and getting along O.K. Did you receive the letter I wrote on the 12th. Well I got wounded the same night so you see I lost no time. I got a piece of shrapnel right through my helmet it also gave me a light fracture as well hit I had an operation and am now feelings fine except that I have to stay in bed for a week or so. I think I shall make England this time to. We had just gone into the front line that night and it was a place where when we advanced about a week before we captured some guns and had not got them moved. So Fritz was doing his best to smash them up by shelling.
You should have seen our artillery fire the day we went over. Fritz's front line was just like a wall of flame, and Ill bet they did not enjoy it going over was like taking a candy from a kid. It was so easy.
He never shelled us all day, but used considerable machine gun fire.
Well does not seem to be very much of interest to write about so I will close.
Write as soon as I can give you an address and let me know the latest.
Goodbye for the present.
Charlie.
