Description

John Ernest McLurg was born in Prospect Hill, Ontario in 1875 and enlisted in September, 1914. He served in France and Belgium until he was taken prisoner at Ypres in April, 1915, when he was then transferred to a prisoner of war facility for officers at Heidelberg, Germany. McLurg remained at Heidelberg until he was paroled to Switzerland in 1916, spending a year there until he returned to Canada in 1918. The collection consists of a memory book kept while at Heidelberg, which includes photographs of the camp and his fellow officers, artwork, and miscellaneous inscriptions.
