Aldershot
Sept. 29/16
Dear Ollie:-
Yours received this morning. I had commenced to think you people were all sick. Tried for three days to get you on this phone but couldn’t and Anderson asking about nine times a day if I had heard from Squire. Guess he thought he was only playing possum. But don’t let him come until he is somewhere near fit for I will let you know as soon as possible when we are leaving. But think it will be a week yet anyway. But of course we can’t tell. They have orders to close the canteen next Sat. and Lieut. Wiley told me we were leaving a week from Tues. But he don’t know anymore about it than the rest of us. But we are having our final examination Sunday after church parade so I won’t be able to come out. Am on Bn. orderly Sergt. Tomorrow night anyway so it doesn’t make much difference. Of course I might get some one to take my place if they don’t have the exam. H.N. Mc Neil said he would take it if he wasn’t on anything but I hate to be beholden to anyone. Don’t see why the devil they can’t put me on in the middle of the week and give me a chance to come home in peace.
Well I hope Squire is fit to come back Mon. A.M. for I think it would kill him to have to go the 246th and I this is a false alarm. I don’t expect to see home in daylight again this year but don’t tell Squire for he would have a fit and start back before he is fit. I don’t suppose you will be through tomorrow but guess you won’t miss much. I don’t even know what it’s like but one thing I don’t know I am sick of these big days.
Must quit for this time. Oh yes, I got my Sergt’s certificate from the R.S.I. today.
Good Night
Jack
PS Will be out some evening next week if we are leaving. Will try to get an all night’s pass if possible.
Jack
