My dear Fern:

This won't be a very neat letter I'm afraid as I am writing under difficulties. Today we came back to the same place I was at during January last. You will remember we left here in Feb but we are back again now as the other place was too near the war.

Received Dads cable dated Mar 15th as Metcalf had just received a letter from me the morning he received the cable he answered it as I had told him to open any cables that might come for me.

I think I told you that I expected to get home about the first of May but the bally Huns have gone and spoilt that. I suppose you have heard by now of their push down south. As a consequence all leave has been stopped indefinitely and I will be forced to save money.

I am quite [unreadable] usual only more dirty as I have just come down from a show and there is no hot water and I am feeling fed up as three of us just climbed from 12 to 18000 after now five bally Huns over Lille which wouldn't wait for us and we froze just for nothing.

I don't know how the infantry down south is getting along but if they clean up the Huns on the ground like we have been doing in the air there won't be any need to worry.

We have brought down eighteen in the last month and only had one causality, McClintock. We certainly have got off easy although it is mostly luck as we got an awfully long way over and are willing to offer odds to the Huns if they will only stand up.

Heard from Wib the other day. He is back at his old aerodrome with a soft job. He can have it. I'll do my time out here first.
