France
Sun. Dec 12th 15
Dear Mother:-
Sunday has rolled around once more and we are beginning to make plans for Xmas as it is barely two weeks away. As we are billeted in a town we are arranging for an Xmas dinner. We will be getting extra pay so I think we will be able to make the grade. The boys up the line rec'd the money last time they were out of the line.
It has pretty well settled down to winter now although it is quite mild with lots of rain and it generally gets dark by 4:30. Everything is sopping wet and some of the fields look more like a slough than a field. I have just drawn my third pair of boots since coming to France so you can imagine what it is like. It's like the last time you were in Vancouver. We have to keep on working rain or no rain as we must keep on putting out the firewood and posts.
I rec'd a bunch of papers from you last week and am looking forward to my Xmas parcel.
I'll have to hustle up with this letter as it is supper time.
I see by the casualty list in the Free Press that Nation out of our platoon has been wounded.
Well dear I hope you will have had a happy Xmas with Frank being home. He must be getting to be quite a size now he is 17.
Love to all.
Jack
