Dear Mrs. Quinlan,

By the time you receive this letter you will have been notified that your son Pilot Officer D. J. Quinlan is reported missing as the result of air operations.

I should like to express as behalf of the Squadron Commander and myself the sincere sympathy we feel for you in this sad affair.
It is the earnest hope of everyone in the squadron that he is safe. U nat receive news confirming this.

The lad had many friends here and was held in high akin by all. His loss is all to much regretted as he was flying exceptionally well and he
His personal belongings are being send to his R.G.T. , where they will held until better news is received or in any event for a period of at least six month's before they will be forwarded to you through the Administrator of Estates Ottawa.

I am sure you will appreciate that I am unable to give you any further information but I will write to you immediately when I receive any further news.
