C/62 Battery R.F.A.,
July 4-5th 1917
Something's happened to my mail again as I've had none for about 2 weeks. Nothing very exciting has happened so there's not much news to tell except that I am "still in the pink". Have just come down from pasting the Hun and hope we caught a bunch of them.
The weather has been swell the last few days and although the battery was heavily strafed with eight inch and five nines the day I was up at O.P. things have been quite quiet since. We were just coming back when a couple of 5.9's lit just between us and the battery about 50 yds. off. We heard them coming all right so lay in a shell hole for a few minutes hoping he'd stop. Nothing doing however so we beat it over to brigade headquarters about 100 yds. off but it took us about 5 minutes to do it as he was still shelling. He stopped in about half an hour so we got back all right.
How are things going at home now? Am on liaison tomorrow night darn it! However a good walk will do me good and put "hair on my chest". I've got the seam squirrels now. Gee! They're rotten. So long.
