My Dearest

I am waiting patiently for another letter, perhaps there will be two to-morrow the same as last Saturday. I am disappointed there was not one to-night though, because I always like to have a letter to answer, otherwise I can never seem to think of much to write about.

The weather is anything but pleasant just now, it has rained nearly all day to-day. We had to take a gun to Ordinance for repairs this afternoon, I was almost wet through by the time we got back. It is a good thing we are able to have a fire in our shack.

Last night my chum & I thought we would go to the pictures at the Y.M.C.A. but on arriving there found that the tent had been blown over by the strong wind of the previous night, so we had our trip for nothing.

I was over to this show one night last week, it was wonderfully good. They change the pictures twice a week. Of course it is not quite as comfortable as the picture house in Doncaster, no plush seats or anything like that, but all the same it is a treat to be able to see pictures at all in a place like this.

I saw an American Officer pass in a car to-day, he is the first one I have seen over here. We expect to be on the move in a few days and I don't know what opportunities there will be for letter-writing, so Dearest if I have to send Field cards you will know the reason.

I don't know where our destination is, possibly we are going near where Harold is. I will lookout for him if we are in that district. One of our Officers asked me this morning if I would be his groom. I have not given him a decided answer yet, but I think I will try it for a while. You know I have never liked the idea of that kind of thing but really it does not matter much what you do out here, & the Officer is an awful nice fellow. I think I would have more priveleges than being in the lines & anyway I would get out of a good many disagreeable jobs that either gunners or drivers have to do. He has another fellow to look after his personal stuff, so I will only have his two horses to look after.

I have not had a letter from home since I came back, I wonder why they don't write.

Oh Dearest I will never settle down to this life again, I do miss you so much Dearest, & I feel so miserably lonely at times. I have only been back two weeks & it seems like an age. I am hoping and hoping that it will be over this year, and every paper I see I look for some news of possible peace terms being arranged in the near future. I do hope it will be soon.

Dearest I will close for the present hoping you are all well.

Good-night my Darling
Lots & lots & lots of love & xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
