16th Can. General Hospital
Ward 14
Orpington. Kent.

My dear Ethel,

It is about 3 weeks since I have heard from you which I cannot account for unless you are still sending them to Warrington.  In that case I will give up looking for them.  You could not do better and send them to Amys as you did for a time.

I am still in bed and may be for a week or two and after that I leave for a V.A.D. hospital near here.  I am well but I dont think the operation will be successful and wound is not healed up yet.

Had a letter from Ed who is sent to the Investigations Department, London, and I am expecting him down here any day.

There is really nothing to tell you of interest.  There is the news in the papers about the advance of the Hun into Italy which makes nice reading for the 4th year of the war.

I must not forget Dots birthday Dec 12th I think and Alfs Dec 22nd.  I have something to send Ernie as soon as I get about again.

How do you think you can make out on your money this Winter?  Prices here are very high and many articles cannot be bought at all.

I hope I shall hear from you soon I will write again as soon as I do.  How I wish I could make things better for you all.  It is my one great anxiety and disappointment that you should all be suffering hardship.  My heart aches for you all hoping and working on and so much discouragement and so many disappointments to meet.

Goodbye once more with my best love hoping to hear you are all well.

Ever your loving
Daddy
