My dear Ethel,

I have not heard from you as stated in my last letter hope there is no reason as far as you are concerned.  I have remitted the sum of $45.00 direct to the New York Life Winnipeg.  This is about the amount of premium with interest on loan but whether more or less you can settle with the Company.

I spent two evenings with Jack, but moved away so shall not likely see him again for some time.  He has a new job which he considers satisfactory.  Sorry I have no news to tell you except that I am quite well.  Anyway news of the army’s doings that you read in the papers reaches you while I am writing this and my news would be stale.

I am getting anxious to hear from you and most sincerely hope you and the children are all quite well.  The delay is no doubt due to some disorganization somewhere in the transportation system.

To see you all and have a talk together would seem pretty good tonight but that is a pleasure I look [remainder of letter missing]
