Dear Phyllis:

Well Phyl here is my first letter to Canada in the new year so you should consider yourself highly honoured which I suppose you do, just dont bust the buttons on your coat.

I received your Air Mail of Dec 27 yesterday which by the way was my first letter from Canada so I guess it is only proper that I should write you first. I also got two other letters at the same time, one from Keith and one from Neal. The letter from Neal turned out to be an invitation to his wedding which is next Sat (Jan 8). I sure would like to go but I am afraid that I wont be able to make it though I sure would like to.

We got the same holiday here for New Years as we did for Christmas, that is from Friday noon till Monday morning. so I got a pass and went to see if I could find Keith. I arrived in his camp about 7 O’Clock Friday evening, I started out at one. It wasnt such a long ways away but just a difficult place to get to. The closest I could get by bus was 2½ miles so I had to walk it. It was dark when I got there but not too dark which was lucky for me as I had no flash light with me. I went to a place inside the Camp where I was told that his unit was at and then decided to go in a building near by to ask again. It turned that it was the wash room and lo and behold there was Keith a scrubbing like nobody’s business. I dont no who was surprised the most, him at seeing me or me at seeing him scrubbing on New Years Eve. We had put in for a Pass so the next day we went to London, with a couple of his chums. We didn’t have any riotous time although there was plenty of celebrating going on and no foolin.

Saturday night I went to see the Picture “Jayne Eyre” with Orson Wells and Joan Fontaine. Keith and one of his chums went off to a date.

Sunday afternoon we went to see another picture “Miracle of Morgans Creek”, there were a lot of laughs but it got rather monotonas. After the Picture we went to the Beaver Club and had supper and then away to our trains. The end of  our second New Years in England.

Guess I shall close now as there isnt anymore gab.

Love,
Allen.
