France, 16^th/12/17.

My Dear Mater,

Well, I am back to work at last. Owing to the fact, that our place is not yet ready, they have split the unit again, and with about eight others, I have been posted to the 53^rd General Hospital (Imperial), for duty and instruction. I am in the L.M. dept. but different work from before, which will give me a chance to learn another branch of that work.

We marched in here, yesterday morning, and are within five miles of our original camp here, and within five minutes walk of a very nice little village. Much cleaner and nicer than the town we were near before.

This is a dandy hospital, quite large, mostly large tents, but we are fortunate enough to be quartered in huts, which are at least dry. It is fairly cool and trying hard to snow to-night but making a very poor fist of it.

I am very glad to say that Paul is still with me, of course he is in the Lab, but we are to-gether a good deal, which is fortunate. Feeling very well, but still have a little cold. Must expect to keep it over here tho, as they are hard to get rid of.

Our mail will likely be held up on account of the move, and I have had no mail from home for some time, but a letter from Nert (with order) arrived the night before I left camp. Also dandy boxes from Floss, cousin Lil, Lancaster & Patriotic Society at home. I expect that we will be here for Christmas, but likely settled in our own “home” for New Years, hope so anyway.

The checque I told you I was drawing on the Royal there, has been paid, and I told them to place it to the credit of a joint acc., between Nert & myself, this is in the London, Eng., branch of the Royal Bank of Canada. I have not heard from them since, but suppose they are doing this. I may or may not need it, but it will be there if I do.

I wish you would please have the “Post” sent for twelve months to me, as I need some reading, and my address will be 10^th Canadian Stationary Hospital, B.E.F., France, from now on. The Army P.O. may be a little slower, do not send anything to this Hosp., as we may move out any day.

Some of our boys were in a raided area one night last week, but guess they came thro all right. We heard the guns etc., but it was quite a piece up from here.

I have had the Observer of Nov. 15^th which is surely going some, as I have not had a letter as late as that.

Hope Dad is better.
