Dear Dad,

Our mail is rather making up for lost time now, as I have already recieved your letter of 2/6/18, as well as that of 26/5/18. The Mater’s enclosure in one of them, and a parcel posted 7/5/18 containing peanut butter, cocoa etc. Thanks very much for same.

Glad the O.C.’s cable set your minds at rest, but it is not necessary to worry until you get definite news, ever. It will reach you quickly enough, usually before the newspaper reports. I would not be surprised tho if in the case of Vas, the official notification was late, as I believe things were pretty well disorganized, as it was a rather unexpected happening there. I hope he is able to get home on it, that is the best place for him.

I think the engine attention, you will find all you required, the new rings will give it a new lease of life, making the compression so much better.

$ Day proved quite good and I am glad the Auto-Shop sales are still going strong. I would push the Military set early as a gift to the troops for Christmas. Believe me, mine has proved a most useful companion.

It is tough that wrist watches are so hard to get, but the decent grade of Swiss is almost extinct over here. I don’t think there are more than a half dozen Omegas in the place, and only one better one – a Longines chrono in wrist size at about 250 £, which as a timepiece would be a rather poor buy.

It is fierce the way prices are going up over there, but I suppose the tax is responsible for it.

If they are still having trouble in Toronto, getting a kiln, they might get some information on the subject from Thayer & Chandler of Chicago, especially if it is for cold burning. If for original baking tho, they would not likely know much about it. There should be a good electric kiln on the American market by this time, but probably not on as large a scale as they want. What are they doing for eyes and hair, making their own, or buying them? I think eyes for sleepers were practically all European and likely German or Austrian at that.

How is Spence Reid getting home, furlough or invalided? I had heard nothing of it. Some trip you had to London. I see that Guelph [tire?] concern is going again. Is F.A.C. still interested, I wonder?

I hope Henderson is able to get you cleared up before Winter. Because there is no possibility of getting home this year, from the present outlook, at least.

Under present conditions you would nearly have to carry the Ingersoll line. They have several rather neat small models, selling in Blighty. Metal articles are going up all around. Those Stevel wristlets, I told you about a year ago, were 2/6 and I am just getting one from Blighty – now at 4/6. Some difference.

Glad your garden is doing so well. I think growing is a little slow over here this year, but we are getting a little rain now and they are fairly hopping along.

Love to all,
Your affectionate son,
Worth.
