Ravenscroft, Canadian Military Hospital.
Seaford Sussex
8/2/17.

Dear Mother and All,

Well, here I am at Seaford, a little sooner than I expected, came over in the ambulance this afternoon. It is nothing like as nice as Eastbourne. There is practically no town here at all and the hospital is some distance out. It will be a good chance to sleep and rest up for a month or two, but I hope no longer than two months. Of course I don’t expect it will be worse nor as bad as Moore Barracks.

I found out much to my surprise, yesterday, that among some new nurses attached to the unit, was Anne Wilson. I went right up and saw her for a few minutes. She has been in France with an ambulance, but had returned to Canada, coming over here on the same boat as Mildred Clark.

I bought a nice pair of breeches before leaving Eastbourne to-day, and have a hip pocket. I hardly know how to use it, as it is so long since I had one.

I have had no mail from home lately, in fact the unit has not had a Canadian mail for something like two weeks. It is reported that a boat with heavy Canadian mail was torpedoed, but we have no confirmation. This would account for one set of letters, but there should be more than that. I have not heard from Nert, for about three weeks. It would not surprise me, if letters both ways go down for awhile, as the subs will no doubt, do a good deal of damage, but don’t think it will last long. Three Canadian troop ships have just arrived and understand they were well guarded, so every precaution will be taken.

Thinking people, here, believe that for the first time, the end of the war is in sight, and it really looks from this last move, as if Germany was getting desperate. The next five months should tell the tale, and see the enemy out of France and Belgium, if not entirely beaten.

As they expect to be very busy at Eastbourne in a week or so, all the nursing sisters are up there, and we will have none here at all. I think tho that we can really get along as well without them, and I don’t think the work here will be really hard at all. Of course I will know better in a week, just how it is going to go here.

Sure hope there is some mail soon.

Lovingly,
Worth.
