Moore Barracks Hospital,
England 26/10/16.

My Dear Sister,

I was more than delighted to get yours of the 13th to-day, and I will also be delighted to receive the “eats.” I got a box from mother, this morning, it was the first one she sent me, and had been delayed some place in England, and the fruit cake, was pretty well smashed up and the icing stuck to the paper, but believe me, it was good. Last Saturday I got the second one she sent me and it was in good shape.

As you will see by my letters home, I am back on 5, and on regular kitchen work. I like it better as there is not such hard work, but I have to keep busy. I am learning too, things which will help me later, preparing diets etc. I boiled beets to-day, the first time I ever did anything like that, will pickle them to-morrow.

I suppose you know now that Col. Scott formerly of St M’s is in command here. He is a regular devil at times too. He told me one day, that I should know the name and color of hair and eyes of every patient on the ward. I sent some snaps home, to be sent on too Floss, will send you some a little later, they will interest you I think.

If your diet trays are like ours, I don’t know how you ever manage them. Ours are two trays of heavy tin which fit into each other and the top one has a cover, the bottom one a false bottom and between is filled with hot water. The trays contain ten (each) diet pans also of tin, and when loaded, weighs some.

Thanks for the clippings, Poor Warren had a little hard luck, but he is only one of a thousand. Canada will lose from one to two hundred thousand, besides crippled.

I feel much better now than I did when I came, but a fellow told me to-day, that we would be here for five months more I sincerely hope not tho I want to move. They took the names of those still in tents, this morning and we will likely be inside before the end of the month.

I too, hope to see the 168th boys, but likely they will be a hundred miles from here. Hope not tho.

Don’t worry about Nert
