September 20^th 1916.

My Dear Mother and All,

Just a few lines to-night, as my time is rather limited and I want to write a note to Floss and Emerson. I had a fine letter from Emerson, posted on the 4^th, but was very much disappointed at not getting any from home. I have heard nothing from Floss yet, but will likely get a bunch of mail some of these days.

To-day is my afternoon off, and I have come over to the old camp, to visit those who are still here. I am writing as you see, from the “Y.”

I am much better satisfied than when I last wrote. Outside of sleeping accommodation, things are all right. Still on day duty but heaps to eat and believe me, I eat a terrible amount. With all the bad food, and knocking around, I weigh 147, which I think is as much or a little more than I weighed when I left Canada. Many of the boys have colds, but my health remains as good as ever, if not better, and I have a boy with me in the ward who is much more congenial, than the first one. He is a corporal, but has to do just the same work as I.

It is getting quite cold here now, and the rainy season has set in, rains nearly every day or night, for a little while, but soon clears up again.

Hope business keeps up and that Dad is getting along O.K. Have him give you the King Hiram notices to send to me.

Will write a longer letter at my first opportunity.
