Subscribed one day's pay every 3 months to the Patriotic Funds for balance of war. Payable: Feb, May, Aug, Nov. Received an increase in salary of 5.00 per month beginning January 1916 pay. Started at Dominion Express April 21/11. {He would have been 14 yrs, 7 mos. old}

Coldest St. Patrick's Day in 34 years. Exceptionally cold weather lately for March.

August 23/16
Left Toronto 6.40pm for Parry Sound enroute for Midford Island, Georgian Bay on vacation. Arrived Parry Sound 12.15, put up at Mansion House in makeshift bed in housemaid's closet. Got up at 5.30 am, walked to dock and found Winnie and Rhoda sitting on their trunks waiting for me. Also met Minnie's father. Left Parry Sound at 7.00am and arrived at Sans Souci about 8.30am. Got a room at hotel and left our grips there and put in the day on the verandah and at the piano. Ernie and Nora arrived at 6.20 pm on the Manbic from Penetang. Stayed overnight at Sans Souci and left early next am for Midford. Put in 9 days of solid fun and enjoyment and left Sunday at 3.45pm on our fine launch for Copperhead. Stayed overnight and left 6.30am on Manbic for Penetang. Arrived Penetang at noon hour, transferred right on to train and got to Toronto about 3.00pm. Some trip.

Sept. 16
Ontario went dry today at 7.00pm Considerable number of intoxicants down town but crowd in a good mood and no serious trouble reported.

Bought pair of Boots at Eatons. $6.00, Size 7 Oct. 4 San Carlo Grand Opera Co. at Royal in Carmen. Madame Ferrabini as Carmen. OK.

Oct. 9
(Thanksgiving Day) Nora & Ernie moved out to Weston. Van left Empress Cres. at 10.30am arrived Weston 2pm. Everything OK nothing damaged. Oct. 11 Shea's Oct. 18 Revule

Oct. 20
Electric Light in house. No meter in yet. Everything OK & passed inspection without trouble.

Oct. 27
I enlisted in Army Service Corps as a clerk. Granted leave of absence till Nov. 9th when I will report and receive uniform.

Nov. 9
Reported at Armouries and was sent out to Exhibition with Howard, Millson and Colbram. They were not able to supply me with complete uniform so Staff Sergeant Harris gave me a pass till next am. I reported again on Friday and the necessary equipment was still short so Sgt. Harris gave me a pass till Monday am. Reported on Monday & got my equipment with exception of Dress Britches. Buckled right down to work and took the regular course of training till Friday when I was given a job in the Orderly Room.
