March. 10/44.

Dear Phyllis,

Thank you very much for the air mail letter received today. Glad to hear you are all well. Tell Ed to get some good ideas on rehabilitation as I am going to need a lot of it. – Don’t tell Mother and Dad , please, as they would worry, but I expect to be home on leave fairly soon now. I cannot tell you when because I don’t know myself but it should not be too long a time – Please don’t worry yourself but I do like someone to know in case anything does happen. I shall wire you when I get there. – Sorry to hear about Joey. I suppose her husband really is gone. If so I hope she gets over it. When they feel the way she does she is liable to get neurotic. – I think it is always better if there is definite news. – I have seen both Blake and Stan Horswill entirely by luck. They are the first two Nelson people I have met over here and boy what a party we had as you can imagine. – This may be too late but happy birthday to Jane anyway and give her a kiss for her uncle. She may not recognize me from my picture as I am a bit fat but we can soon tell her.

Much love to you all and I hope to see you soon.

Love
Hampton.

P.S. Don’t expect me for a month or six weeks.
