20 January, ’16.

Volunteered for draft in afternoon. Passed doctor in good shape. Feel greatly relieved and bucked up that I have managed to get on. Draft consists of fifty men. As we are practically all strangers to each other, it is a little “difficult” at first, but no doubt that will soon rub off. The office staff volunteered in great style; the whole postal department volunteered in a body.

Got a new kit — quality not nearly so good as the original one received in Ottawa.
