April 30th, 1915.

We are still at it and I have been lucky so far. They are dropping Jack Johnsons all around but few get hit.

It is certainly a strenuous battle Art got hit the other night taking up ammunition. It was shrapnel in the abdomen and he is doing fine.

The place is a vertable shambles. Poor old Bob, my horse got it. First he got one in the forehead and was doing fine, but another shell finished him. I loved that old horse. Captain got hit yesterday in the forehead, but is doing fine. Got the socks O.K. by mail, also the big bundle which I told the Quarter-Master Sergeant to open and distribute to men that need them. We cant take our boots off at all these days and our feet get very sore. Received socks and maple sugar from Aunt Hattie.
