My darling girl

This is the first chance I have had to write since we got into the battle, I sent you a field card yesterday as I thought you would be anxious. Well sweetheart you probably know all about it by now & I can give you details when I come on leave. D.V. Am now in command of D Cy as the Cy Commander was wounded, the old 5th took there objective in fine style, we expect to go forward again any time now. Have not had any letters for a few days of course I know that isn't your fault as we have been on the move the whole time & it is rather difficult for the mail to get up. Am wondering if you are going to take that holiday I suggested for you & the kiddies. Nearly got a nice Blighty, got hit on my right thigh by piece of shell but only got a bad bruise. No more this time dearest, keep smiling. Fondest love to you & bairns.

Your loving,

Jim
