My dear Mr. Boggs,

I feel it is rather presumption on my part to intrude on your grief, but I must write to tell you how deeply we all have felt the loss of your son. You have our sincerest sympathy. Your son died to protect our homes and our liberties and our lives, and we honour him and are indebted to him. His name is in the roll of honour and we are proud to have known him. Perhaps, if I am not asking too much, you would let me have a copy of his photograph, I should like to place it among those of [?] friends and relations who have fallen at the front.

I hope you have good news of your son who was when I last heard in the Indian Cavalry. I wonder has he met my eldest son who is attached to the 29th Indian Lancers and when he last wrote wrote from the trenches with bullets flying round. My son is in the Interpreters Corps.

My second son with the 30th Battalion sailed from Halifax about 10 days ago and I trust they have landed safely by this.

If you should be out this way come in and see us.

Believe me
Yours very sincerely
W Cuthbert Holmes
