Dear Pater,

General Salmond said I might go, and there is a machine ready for us to fly, so Jarvis and I expect to flap across the Channel to-morrow and see "La Belle France" I'll only be there for a day probably and it isn’t in the least likely that I’ll even get within sight of the firing line, but the trip across will be worth while and I am looking forward to having a fine time. I’ll probably come back on either Saturday or Sunday with some other pilot.

Neil Van Nostrand has turned up. He is a prisoner in Germany. Isn’t that splendid. Must get to bed now for the big sleep.

Lots of love, Pater, Dear,
Your affectionate son,
Eric.
