Dear Mother & all:

Well here another week has passed and no mail. It is now over two weeks since I have had any mail from Canada. From what I can learn our mail went down on the “Laconia” so perhaps this week will bring some. I suppose you will also be looking for some mail and he thinking all kinds of things has happen. Well I am still in London and am having a real good time as far as possible. So tell the truth this country will soon be in a state of siege as far as food goes. Of course I can not tell you all I know for the censor might turn around and give me a little of what he knows.

Well I do not know what to do this afternoon but I am going to the theatre for soldiers only tonight. This affair is on every Sunday night but I have never gone up to the present. I suppose you will think it rather funny for such things to be on on Sunday but I understand it is too keep the soldiers away from Whiskey and women. These are two of a fellows greatest enemies in this country but the Authorities are trying their best to put a stop to it.

I have heard nothing more of anymore going back to their units but as soon as the summer weather comes I think I shall have another try to get back to my unit. I do not know.

There is not much doing in London at the present time of course the Theatres are still going and the Street are being lighted more every day. Some streets are quite light again, but I suppose it will be a long time before we shall have the pleasure of seeing London in full glare.

What do you think of the war now do you ever think it is going to end. I do but Peace wont be declared in 1917. I really think that the hard fighting will be over the summer but Peace wont be here until 1918.

I wouldn’t mind taking a trip to Canada but not until the war is over I think the next trip I take will be to France and then perhaps I will get home a little sooner than the Boys who are still in the Office.

Well I will close, hoping to hear from Canada soon

Your loving Son

Alfred.
