From Pte. Allan Furber

Mrs. James Little has received the following letter from her son, Pte. Allan Furber, who is at the front with the Second Battalion:

Dear Mother:
I now take pleasure in writing you a few lines to let you know that I am O.K. I have not had a letter from you for two weeks. I was not intending to write until I get one, but I changed my mind. We are in billets for a few days resting. There is a talk about our getting a few days' leave to go to England, but we hear so much that we cannot believe anything. But it is to be hoped so anyway, for we could do with it, as in this country it is all French. So you see it is not like hearing your own language. Well, we have been in another charge and have lost quite a lot more men. Bill Brooks and I are among the lucky ones. Brooks got wounded but not to amount to anything. We are getting nice weather now and it is pretty warm, but we have to put up with everything in the Army. Take it all and say nothing is the best plan. How did you enjoy yourself at Picton? I suppose it is pretty dead all right but I hope you had a good time. I have had as good a time as can be expected. Well mother, I guess I will have to close now, I hope this letter finds you all in as good health as I am enjoying, and that you are all right. Remember me to Jim and all. From your loving son.
ALLAN.
