Dec. 20th 1916

Dear Brother Bill : - Just a few lines to let you know I received your letter dated Nov. 25th and very glad to hear that you are all well, as this leaves me the same. Before I go any further, I must give you the proper address, what I want you to use after this. Note! the following, Pte. W. Johnson No, 438681, A company, Lewis Gun section, 52nd Canadians, B.E.F France. The last address you sent was not right. Well! You sent me a lot of war news this time But one statement you were wrong in, what George said about, we were only one weeks in the Somme. We were 6 weeks in the Somme front. I received the parcel which you sent with socks strawberries and Etc. The strawberries were in good shape and tasted alright, I wrote you about that parcel long ago, I also received a gift of two hankercheifs from the B. Y. P. U. Port Arthur. I am sending a 52nd card, on it you will see a picture of how we live in the Trenches. Note the dug-out with a man in front cooking on a little stove, also the shells bursting around the dug –out. No more, your loving Brother W. J.
