 Dear Mr. & Mrs. MacMahon:-

Many thanks” for the package of apples and maple sugar.  The package arrived o.k. this morning.

I’m at present enjoying a few days of peace and quietness-far from the guns.  Jack is here.  We are in o.k. form

The scenery here is very majestic.  Nothing like it this side of Canada.  My home is a valley and there is a ridge running out that reminds me of Blomidon. The only difference, it’s on the wrong side of the valley.

Trees, flowers and everything is at its best.  The wheat in places is about two and three feet high.  Just imagine having wheat that high in old Nova Scotia at this time of year.

I had a letter a couple of weeks ago from Sadie Palmer (it was a surprise letter to me).  Got all the latest news from her.

There’s nothing new to report on the Western Front, as I’m afraid I shall have to close.

Thanking you once again for your kindness.

 I remain

Sincerely yours

Hector MacNeil
