Dear Ollie:

Will try and answer your last letter.  It’s sure been a long time since I wrote but have had no chance.  It’s pretty busy times now.  I was two days scratching a few lines to Mother but will hope to have better luck tonight.  Got you box last night, just finished the last of it tonight.  Got some milk and sugar from the cooks and finished the puffed rice.  Well Allie it’s just over a year ago since the Vimy show but there are very few of us left; the old boys.

You asked what nappoo means.  Well it means finish or killed. Oh we have a queer language among ourselves.  A mixture of French and English.  Was sorry to hear Aggie lost her boy.  But more so about poor Joe.  He was as chipper as a lark when I saw him in Paris.  He told me then it would either be nappoo or blighty and poor chap he got the nappoo.

I can’t think of anything to write.  It’s a steady roar of our guns and Fritzey shells.  So I reckon I better quit for this time.  We are having dirty weather the last couple of weeks and that means it’s hard traveling either in or out of the trenches but it will soon be getting better.  Oh yes, I have another Aylesford man in the Coy. now; young Tupper.  I think he is the chap who ran away and came home.  Must say good night.

Love to all

Jack
