In Holland

Dear Sir;

Today I received from Humewood Public School three hundred cigarettes and wish to thank you very much. This is by no means the first time that you have sent me gifts and I really do appreciate them. Please thank all those responsible and some day in the not too distant future I hope to be able to have the pleasure of doing it personally.

There are many Humewood Public grads in this regiment and we sometimes get together when we aren’t fighting and talk about the days we spent there. And of course now there are some of the grads from not so long ago here and we discuss, pardon me, the teachers both old and new. And it is surprising the little incidents that one can recall from time to time even after ten years away.

So from the water of Holland

to the people back home

I’ll close this letter

With this little poem.

Sincerely

Howard Cuff
