My dearest Mother

The above is the address of this dugout and was named by five men who occupied it a short time back because they discovered they were all from different nationalities: - English, Scots, Canadian, American and Swede. So much for a name.

I received Pa's note enclosing Percy very interesting, literary effort and only wish I was there too.

Pa's note on the state of the weather is good and I endorse his hopefulness that brighter days will soon be here. Jan the 20th is today, Feb 20th wont be long in coming and then March winds will arrive to blow all wintry cobwebs away ready for April's fitful sunshine and May's brilliance. Here! Stop, Jack or you'll get Xmas here again.

As I've nothing more to add tonight to this except that I'm cooking porridge at the same time as writing, if that's of any interest.

I will close with best love.

Your ever loving boy

Jack
